Platinum

Strong and very popular, platinum is a white metal that takes on a warm patina over time.

Gold

While commonly yellow, gold can also be white or rose-colored depending on what alloy it’s mixed with, usually nickel or copper.

Only platinum and gold are strong enough to use for rings that are set with diamonds, to insure that the stone stays put.

However, plain wedding bands are also available in contemporary metals tungsten, palladium, and cobalt—each with their own interesting characteristics.

Contemporary Metals

Tungsten, cobalt and palladium are less expensive alternatives to platinum and gold.

Understanding Fit

When talking about wedding rings fit refers to how the ring lies against the finger, as well as the height, or dome, of the ring.

Inside of Ring

Outside of Ring

Outside of Ring

Extra metal has been applied to the inside of comfort fit rings for a rounder edge. The interior of non-comfort fit rings is flat

A high dome ring protrudes out farther from the finger than a low dome ring. But we’re talking a difference of millimeters, so the choice is purely one of personal style
